A device found in the Whitecross area late last night could have caused real harm. That's according to Newry & Armagh MLA Justin McNulty who urged those involved to 'get off the backs of the local community'
The device was discovered on the Ballymoyer Road in Co Armagh, leading to a security alert and policing removing the item for further examination.
Mr McNulty said “I would urge everyone involved in planting this viable device to cease this kind of activity at once and get off the backs of the local community. We are lucky that the alarm was raised before a member of the public came across this device, which could have led to tragedy.
He concluded “I’d like to thank police and ammunition technical officers for their efforts in removing this device. This security alert caused significant disruption in the Whitecross area with the Ballymoyer Road being closed for a number of hours. People in this community should be able to live their lives without having to worry about unwelcome interruptions caused by incidents like this.”
The road reopened shortly after midnight.
