Planning permission has been granted for a hotel at Kileen, close to where the Clontigora Road emerges onto the old Belfast to Dublin Road. The application in the name of Euro Route Food Services would see a 32 bedroom hotel with facilities for business guests.
Documents associated with the application explains there is a long planning history for the site. It had outline approval for a hotel and country club in 1984 but the troubles at the time led to the proposal not being advanced. The latest application was made back in 2017 and permission was granted this month.
This proposed development will operate as a budget hotel with the business traveller in mind.
The 2,700 sq metre hotel is expected to include 32 bedrooms as well as a function/conference room and dining room.
Being approximately one hour to Dublin City and one hour to Belfast City the site would be ideally located for the business traveller.
Documentation explains "The location is close to the Ring of Gullion Region and the stunning Mourne Mountains, the south east of Northern Ireland is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, providing coastal drives and hill walking to rock climbing, nature rambles, photography, canoeing and cycling to horse riding, bird watching, fishing and world class golf."
