Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure Minister Carál Ní Chuilín took a whistlestop tour around some of Newry's top sports and arts facilities this week.
In Newry the Minister met with the Sacred Heart Boxing Club, Bosco Boxing Club, Thomas Davis GAC Corrinshego and Sticky Fingers.
She also visited Crossmaglen Rangers and Dromintee GAC.
Commenting during her trip Minister said: “I am here to listen, to see the work taking place in communities and to hear about how these organisations plan to develop.
“Culture, arts and leisure has a key role to play at a grassroots level right across the north. These clubs and bodies may represent different sports, but there is a lot of common ground. And all have a positive effect on people’s lives.
“Taking part in sport and physical recreation has benefits in terms of health and well being. This is true for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
“Today, I have seen this first hand. I have also been able to acknowledge the work that goes on addressing my department’s priorities in tackling poverty and social exclusion and promoting equality through sport. This is particular true in rural areas.”
