It may be a few months away but the Southern Area Hospice Midnight Memory Walk will soon come around so now is as good a time as any to register!
This year's Walk will begin in style on Saturday October 5th at St Colman's College, Newry with the spectacular Roslyn Sheridan Gospel Choir performing prior to Midnight, to set the tone for participants. There will also be a beautiful 'Memory Dedication Area' where walkers can display messages in memory of their loved one's.
The 6km route around Newry City has been designed to be a fun and easy way for everyone to raise vital funds to support our local hospice. Hospice staff and volunteers will lead a light warm up routine prior to the event to ensure walking muscles are ready for action before the countdown to midnight, when participants set off on their journey.
The event is proudly sponsored by A1 Safety and WorkWear, Newry who will be providing each participant with a high visibility jacket on the night. The event was first held in 2009, and last year’s Midnight Walk raised over £9,000 for the work of the Hospice. We are hopeful this year that we can raise the stakes again!
Why not get a few family members, friends or work colleagues together and take advantage of our group discount for teams of 4 or more. The registration fee is £5 for this captivating event, and we ask that participants raise a minimum sponsorship of £20 individually, or £15 each if part of a group. Under 14's register for free and are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £10 each. All fitness abilities can attend, and under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
Majella Gollogly, Hospice Fundraising Manager said: "This year's midnight walk promises to be a truly enchanting event with the Gospel Choir setting the tone. We would love to see as many people as possible turn out this year, in aid of Southern Area Hospice Services. We are inviting everyone to participate, so please come along and soak up the atmosphere.”
