'Mission '15 - Good News for Bad Times' is taking place this week at Newry Metropolitan Church and runs till Sunday 4th of October.
There's no doubt that the days we live in are marked by upheaval and uncertainty - on the global level, we see the movement of nations, the threat of terror and war, civil unrest and breakdown.. many people are wondering what's happening in the world?
Christ spoke about wars and rumours of wars, nations rising against nations, famines, earthquakes, the spread of false religion and the increase of lawlessness as the time of the end grew near. On a personal level, many of the things life throws at us can make us feel worried and anxious. We worry about our kids, how to pay the bills, or about the argument we had last night. We can also carry hurt from the past which weighs us down.

Tragic accidents on our roads and devastating diagnoses remind us that life is fragile and vulnerable -none of us can predict what lies around the next corner. Where is the good news in the midst of all this?
Some people think more money is the answer; others try alcohol, drugs or sex, but none of these fill the gap. Because God created us, only a relationship with him can give us peace and rest for our souls, and only Jesus can make this possible.
During the Mission, sermons will be given each night on questions like, Is God really there? Was Jesus a real person, just a good teacher or actually the Son of God? And if he was God, why did he let himself die on the cross? Was he really raised from the dead? And if so, what does all this mean for me?
Billy Patterson will be speaking each night, and there will also be songs of praise and various people sharing their own stories of the difference that faith in Christ has made to their lives.
The Metropolitan Church in Edward Street is non-denominational and open to everyone from all backgrounds, and you are warmly invited to come along and hear the gospel. No offerings will be lifted during the mission and no one will embarrass or make you feel conspicuous.
The mission will be held sundays at 7pm, and mon-fri at 8pm.
