Write a commentSDLP Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has welcomed confirmation from Transport NI that a number of additional improvement works will be carried out in Mayobridge following SDLP representations.
The scheme which has already started should be completed in eight weeks. It will improve the quality of almost a kilometre of the road surface and also improve the footways and drainage on this stretch of road.
The completed scheme will also include the replacement and addition of red textured surfacing and improved road markings highlighting the school patrol crossing and 30mph village entry points.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said: “I’m delighted that Transport NI have agreed to additional improvement works in Mayobridge that will improve safety for motorists and pedestrians throughout the area. This is a significant investment of £200,000 in improvement works and will benefit the local community.
“Many residents will have already received notification of a 6 week road resurfacing plan which will cause some disruption for commuters and road users. In addition to that, I made representations to Transport NI urging them to take this opportunity to include new road markings and school signage as part of a wider programme of works. I’m very pleased to have received confirmation that this will now take place.
“I am committed to improving road safety for everyone in our area and will continue to work with statutory agencies and local people to deliver results.”
In order to facilitate the works and ensure the safety of workers and the public, lane closures and a two week road closure will be required to complete the surfacing works.
During the periods of the road closure access will be made available on request to residents and to local businesses within the length of the closure but it should be appreciated that some delays will be inevitable.
Road users are asked to obey the road closure and direction signs at all times and to continue to cooperate with site personnel in the interests of safety whilst these improvement works are being carried out.
The work commenced on Wednesday 30 September 2015 and is expected to be substantially completed on Friday 27 November 2015.
