Moxie bring their distinctive music to Newry Market for Fleadh gig

Sligo band Moxie are one of the brilliant headliners entertaining at Iúr Cinn Fleadh 2016.

They play Friday 9th September in Newry Market at 8pm as part of a Live at the Market series of gigs at the historic location. Tickets are £11 and can be be bought online at www.iurcinnfleadh.com or from the Buttercrane Help Desk in Buttercrane Shopping Centre.

Moxie are a five piece instrumental traditional fusion band all hailing from the West of Ireland.  With world, jazz and progressive influences they truly have a distinctive sound.

The young Celtic super-group  started out in 2011 as a forward thinking Irish band from Sligo. They formed through years of musical friendship from playing at certain festivals around Ireland.  

The band includes Cillian Doheny (tenor banjo/guitar), Jos Kelly (button accordion/keyboard), Darren Roche (button accordion), Ted Kelly (tenor banjo/electric guitar) and Paddy Hazelton (percussion).

They released their debut album ‘Planted’ in 2014 to critical acclaim.   They are a festival favourite in Europe and beyond.    Moxie are known for their highly charged live performances and have built a considerable following in Ireland.  

Moxie produced music for ‘PRODJIG- The Revolution’, which is running for three weeks in Cork Opera House this summer.   Moxie performed at the All Ireland Fleadh in 2012 and the Spirit of Folk Festival in 2013 where they won the Spirit of Folk Band Award.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Arts Council NI are this years main Fleadh sponsors.
