Residents and businesses in Camlough have received a welcome connectivity boost with the announcement that O2 mobile phone coverage is now widespread in the area.
Slieve Gullion Councillor Declan Murphy confirmed the development, stating that he expects other networks to follow suit in the near future.
Cllr Murphy emphasised the importance of reliable mobile connectivity for rural communities across South Armagh. "Planning permission for a mobile mast in Camlough was granted some time back and it is now operational. Access to suitable phone signal is now as essential for rural communities as broadband and other modern services. Not only is it a key to helping local businesses thrive but it also ensures that the local community can quickly contact emergency services should they be needed."
The new mobile infrastructure is expected to significantly improve communication capabilities in an area that has historically struggled with consistent coverage.
Murphy highlighted his party's commitment to enhancing rural services, adding: "Sinn Féin is committed to working for all to deliver better services for our rural communities, to securing a modern, fit for purpose phone network, helping to attract investment into South Armagh to create new jobs and grow the local economy."
Local residents have reportedly welcomed the development, with many noting the importance of reliable mobile connectivity for both everyday communication and emergency situations.
The expansion of mobile coverage is seen as a critical step in addressing the digital divide between urban and rural areas in the region.
