Warrenpoint is to get a new Banking Hub with the location confirmed today, 12 August. An opening date is still to be announced.
Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has confirmed that the new Banking Hub in Warrenpoint will be located at Unit A, 7 Church Street. A Banking Hub offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday. The Hubs also offer a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated banking issues.
The Community Bankers work on rotation, with a different banking provider available on each day of the week. Community Bankers are usually provided by the banks with the most customers in the local area.
Bank Days
Monday: Danske Bank
Tuesday: Barclays
Wednesday: Santander
Thursday: Ulster Bank
Friday: Bank of Ireland (am only)
The first local Banking Hub opened in Kilkeel in December 2023, and another is planned for Newcastle.
Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the location for the Warrenpoint Banking Hub. The Hub will play a key role in providing access to cash and banking services to the local community. We will keep the community updated on our progress.”
South Down MP Chris Hazzard: “It is positive news that work to open a new banking hub on Church Street will start this month.
“The closure of banks in Warrenpoint over recent years has had a huge impact on the community and the opening of this hub will ensure local residents have accessible services in the area.”
