A new Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) has been opened in Meigh this week. Chairperson of Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Councillor Valerie Harte carried out the official opening.

The new play facility received funding from the Small Settlements Scheme, which is collaboratively funded by the Department for Communities, Department for Infrastructure, Department of Agricultural, Environment and Rural Affairs and Newry, Mourne and Down District Council to deliver a range of projects throughout the District.

The opening ceremony was attended by PCSP Officers, the PSNI and children from St. Patrick’s Primary School, who were eager to explore the exciting features of this brand-new games area. PCSP Officers provided valuable information on various topics such as tackling anti-social behaviour and crime, the importance of road safety, drugs and alcohol misuse and they highlighted the work of the PCSP. The PSNI brought their gaming bus and the children engaged in a range of entertaining activities.

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Valarie Harte said, “I am delighted that this space has been repurposed into a safe area where children can play soccer and basketball. The MUGA offers the children of Meigh a space to meet friends, play sport and simply have fun”.

PCSP Officers attended the opening, providing valuable information on various topics such as the work of the PCSP, tackling anti-social behaviour and crime, the importance of road safety and drugs and alcohol misuse. The Council would like to extend thanks to the main funders, contractors, local residents, Meigh Community Association, and the business community for their continued support in the development and delivery of this project.
