Newry will be joining in on the International Pride celebrations later this month as it hosts “Youth Pride Newry,” from 26 June to 2 July.
For the first time, young people will be at the forefront of the events, which will include a youth comedy night, Pride roller disco, a coffee morning, and various other events in venues across the city, such as The Crisis Café, The Magnet Centre, and Bosco Youth Club.
The hope is that these events will encourage young LGBTQ+ young people and their families to connect with local services and feel they are celebrated and supported by the people of Newry.
Dara Doyle who is a Project Worker with the Crisis Café is looking forward to the programme of events lined up. Dara said "At the Crisis Café, we're all very excited for Newry's first Youth Pride. We feel it is such an important event for all LGBTQ+ young people across Newry and Mourne and would like to encourage people to check out the amazing events which The Crisis Café, The Magnet Centre and lots of other organisations are hosting. Everyone is welcome to join us as we look forward to celebrating our first Youth Pride Event in Newry!”
Youth Pride in Newry kicks off with a Pride Roller Disco on Monday 26 June in Bosco Youth Club and will conclude on Sunday 2 July with a leisurely “Walk with Pride,” starting at Albert Basin. Further events will be happening across the city throughout the week, and details of these events can be found on social media.
Come along, show your support, and show your pride at the first “Youth Pride in Newry” 2023.
