Newry Film Festival has launched an ambitious programme for it's first Film Festival which will run from the 21st to the 26th of August at various venues around the City including some novel screenings in Newry Market.
Speaking at the launch Charlie Casey, Mayor, Newry and Mourne District Council "Newry City will celebrate it's 10th Birthday in September and I believe the organisation of major festivals like your event tonight convinces local residents that Newry is becoming more like a city every year."
He continued "Your first Film Festival is very innovative with a combination of films and workshops being held in the Arts Centre, Bagenals Castle and Newry Variety Market. There are not many Film Festivals that can claim they have such a diverse range of venues."
The festival opens with an open air screening of the classic ET in Newry Market with the 1942 tear jerker Casablanca being shown there the following night.
The Festival will be officially opened on the Friday night with the showing of the short film Bye Child starring local girl Susan Lynch.
As well as film screenings and a special showing of The Lady and the Tramp there will be workshops on making and editing films, script writing and screen acting.
