Newry.ie is taking to the streets of Newry tomorrow Thursday 6 June as part of Indie News Week, a UK wide event that aims to highlight the importance of locally based, independently run news providers like ourselves.
Editor/ Director Columba O'Hare, Director Bronagh McAtasney and Journalist Paul Welsh will be on the move on Hill Street from 9.30am until 11am. We want to find out what you love about Newry and what you feel could be improved in our city. We would also love to hear how Newry.ie could improve as we are always striving to be better.
The Indie News Week initiative is championed by the Public Interest News Foundation and you can find out more at www.publicinterestnews.org.uk
No News is Bad News
Community based Independent news outlets like ours are under threat of closure, turning many areas into news deserts.
Without news, how would you know about the issues affecting your community? How would you know what your local authorities were planning or whether they were acting legally?
How would you know if your local environment was being impacted and by whom? And how would you know about the positive changes in your area, the success stories?
As long as you have a local independent news source in your area, your community can stay informed.
