Charges for on-street parking in Newry are to increase from 1 April. Currently it costs 60p per hour to park in the city's streets and this will be increased by 20p to 80p per hour. The announcement was made today by the Department for Infrastructure citing the ongoing pressure on public funding, and the need to support the carbon reductions in the Climate Change Act (Northern Ireland) 2022 as the reasoning behind the move.
The charges were last increased in February 2017.
In Belfast City Centre the price will rise by 40 pence per hour while Lisburn will have the same increase as Newry although it will bring their hourly charge up to £1.
