The Brain Injury Foundation (BIF), based in Camlough, has welcomed the news from Newry Rugby Youth Club that they will be doing a week-long challenge of 5km runs in aid of the charity. BIF provides support within the SHSCT to brain injury survivors, their carers and families. The challenge begins today 18 May and runs till Sunday.
Speaking on behalf of BIF, Fundraising Officer Daryll Galloghly said, “These are extremely difficult times for everyone, but as a fundraiser I should be ‘out and about’ in the community. I obviously cannot do that due to the current lockdown. Having BIF closed during this lockdown is essential, but our members are unable to benefit from the great joy of taking part in our activities. I look forward to seeing everyone back at BIF when it is safe to do so.
"I am thrilled that Newry Rugby Club’s U16s girls will be taking part in a week-long challenge that will raise funds for BIF. I contacted Sinead Heaney and asked her if she would be up to the challenge and I am happy to say that she jumped at the opportunity. It is a great example of how the community, and indeed friends, are willing to help BIF during these uncertain times."
Sinead Heaney, captain of the u16’s girls team at Newry Rugby Club added, “I was delighted when Daryll suggested the challenge to me. It is a great opportunity for us to get involved in fundraising, whilst also keeping active during the lockdown. Newry Rugby Club is proud to be taking part.”
Daryll continued, “I would like to thank Sinead and the girls, the coaching staff and all at Newry Rugby Club. I hope that in the following weeks, more clubs will take part in BIF’s 5K A Day challenge, and we welcome their support and donations.
