Newry Agricultural Show intend building on last years very successful show and they held their Press Reception in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry last week with a great turn out of sponsors, stewards and committee members.
The Show is being held on Saturday 25th June at Derrymore House, Camlough Road, Newry (by kind permission of the National Trust).
Chairman Tommy Collins welcomed everyone in particular guest speakers Mr James Campbell from the Irish Farmers Journal, Mr John O'Hara National President of The Irish Shows Association and Newry & Mournes Mayor Mr Charlie Casey. Our chairman went on to say he was delighted with the huge number of entries and the interest in Trade Stands.
Sainsburys is giving great support to our Children and Special Needs Section: why not come along and taste some of Sainsburys delicious samples at the Food Demonstration Unit.
Judges will be on the look-out for our Glamorous Granny and most appropriately dressed Lady; our Show Princess and Farmer Boy (vouchers by Buttercrane Shopping Centre) - So dress to impress! Dont forget our Bonny babies U-3, U-6 and U-12 months. Childrens, Home Industries and Horticulture will be displayed in the main marquee.
Cattle, Sheep, Horse and Goat Sections have classes to suit everyone. The McCaughan/Zermex N.Ireland Shearling Ewe Championshop Class(new this year) is a qualifier for the final at Antrim Show on Saturday 23rd July. The final of Race Horse to Riding Horse will be held at Newry for the first time. Our ever successful Dog Show will commence at 2 pm (entries on the day). We wish to thank Mr Liam Fitzsimmons Newry Veterinary Centre for his dedication to this event (proceeds to USPCA, Riding for the Disabled and Newry Gateway Club).
In the action department TrailStar Are All Set To Perform. They will perform a number of displays, giving the public a chance to see this highly skilled extreme two wheeled motorcycle sport, which is non-speed based. the emphasis is to control the bike on the obstacles, riding onto 8' steps, stopping, then jumping back down!
This year we are looking forward to a great turnout of Vintage Cars and Tractors alonf with a selection of entertainment for he young and old with Cromore Castles, A Magic Show and music by Mini Macs Roadshow.
Also at 3pm Seminar - DARD speakers Mr Alan Hopps Senior Dairying Adviser and Mr Michael Doherty Beef and Sheep Adviser will be available to answer some questions.
Livestock Judging and Horse Judging commence at 10 am
Looking ahead the Annual Show Dinner Dance will be in the Canal Court Hotel on Friday the 14th of October.
