Newry based business Playr-Fit who design customised teamwear and sportswear, based at Cloughoge Business Park, Newry, hosted a football tournament for local businesses over the summer as part of men’s health week to promote positive mental well-being and physical health.
The massively successful tournament, supported by Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade took place at Newry City FC’s 3G Pitches with Deli Lites supplying the most welcomed hospitality for all participants and Norbrook Laboratories being the overall winners.
On the day, twenty teams from across the business sector within the greater Newry, Mourne & Down and wider area gathered for a full afternoon of sport which also raised the vital awareness and funds for local suicide prevention and mental wellbeing charity, PIPS Hope and Support.
On completion of their first exciting and successful event, Playr-Fit’s managing director, Kieran Quinn and Marketing Executive, Darren McPolin presented the tremendous proceeds of £2,747.00 to PIPS Hope and Support’s fundraising coordinator, Padraig Harte.
Speaking at the presentation, managing director, Kieran Quinn thanked the many local businesses for their support in making the event the success it was and for raising a wonderful amount for a charity he is passionate about, “When the team and I decided to host the first of what we hope are many, business 5’s football tournaments, we unanimously selected PIPS Hope and Support as our chosen charity and are delighted that we were able to present them with a massive donation that will assist with the vital services and support they provide to our local community.”
Kieran continued, “The event was an incredible afternoon in support of men’s mental health week, and we were delighted to see such a great uptake of businesses which no doubt could have had more participating. The support from Newry Chamber, Deli Lites and Thompson Visuals has been fantastic and ensured the day had everything. On behalf of everyone at Playr-Fit, a huge thank you to all who took part and for the support. We look forward to hosting this event again in the future.”

Padraig finished by saying “The generosity received will assist PIPS H&S in making a difference to the lives of families and individuals who are mentally or emotionally distressed and in need of meaningful support, helping to save lives from suicide and allowing us to develop our charity further based on demand and need.”
