The 2019 Pride In Newry has been selected as the venue for UK & Ireland Pride Festival and Parade. Newry Rainbow Community put in a bid for the event, supported by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Newry Business Improvement District and pipped Pride Cymru, Northern Pride and Plymouth Pride to host the festival.
The International accolade was awarded in Glasgow today (Sunday 28 October) at the annual UK Pride Organisers Network (UKPON) conference 2018.
UKPON brings together organisers of over 150 Pride events in the Ireland, UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man who voted overwhelmingly to support Newry’s bid.

In addition, the European Pride Organisers Association (EPOA) have announced that they will be hosting their next conference in Newry in March 2019 to coincide with Brexit weekend.
Commenting on the successful bid Pride in Newry’s co chair Pádraig Mullally said “We are delighted to have won Uk and Ireland Pride 2019 against a backdrop of setbacks for the LGBTQI community in the North of Ireland, we will work hard to maximise the opportunity’s this status affords us and continue to fight tirelessly for equality in Northern Ireland”
Supported in Glasgow by Pride in Newry team members, Belfast Pride representatives and local politicians, Pride in Newry is now preparing for their most well attended, diverse and inclusive parade and festival ever with a headline concert act, a breathtaking fireworks display, rainbow river cruises etc.
