Write a commentFrantic efforts are underway on to reduce the damage to wildlife caused by a substantial spillage of oil into Newry Canal earlier today.
While workers battled at Sand's Mill the future of several affected swans remained unknown. A couple on a nest of several eggs near WIN Industrial Estate were trying their best to clean themselves but sadly fighting a losing battle. Local agencies including the USPCA were contacted but it's not yet known what if anything they can do to help the nesting swans.
