Write a commentMr Dermot Dempster, of Clonallon Road, Warrenpoint was this month’s winner of the Recycler of the Month Competition
, he was delighted to receive a £50 Buttercrane shopping voucher on behalf of his daughter Charlotte. Charlotte (9), the lead recycler in his house, goes to great lengths to make sure that everyone in the house works together to recycle everything they can including organic waste to the compost heap and glass to the bottle banks!
This month officers were delighted to find that the majority of bins set out contained all the right materials, however, there are a number of items that are regularly found in the blue bin that cannot be recycled. These include plastic bags and plastic food containers such as butter dishes and yoghurt cartons. It is important to remember that for health and safety reasons glass, general waste and food waste cannot go into the blue bin. Your bin man will not collect a bin that is contaminated with any of the items above.
Anyone who uses his or her blue bin correctly is eligible to win the voucher. This means that the blue bin is not contaminated, all material is clean, dry and loose, and where appropriate lids are removed and containers are washed and squashed. The correct materials are paper, cardboard, plastic bottles and food, drink and aerosol cans.
