Resurfacing of the Old Warrenpoint Road in Newry will start this Monday 12 October and continue for four weeks. A temporary one-way traffic system will be in place from the Chapel Hill Road to the Greenan Road junction while the work is carried out.
Preparatory works for the scheme are now nearing completion.
The one-way system will operate continuously from 8am on Monday 12 October to 6pm on Sunday 8 November 2026. Northbound traffic will be permitted to travel from the Greenan Road junction along the Old Warrenpoint Road towards Greenbank Roundabout.
Southbound traffic should use the A2 Warrenpoint dual carriageway and turn left back into the Old Warrenpoint Road at Forest Hills.
The Department has programmed the work and traffic management arrangements to minimise inconvenience, and steps have been taken to accommodate local access. However, road users should expect some delays and are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the vicinity of the works. They are also asked to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions.
Subject to favourable weather conditions, the works will be substantially complete by Sunday 8 November 2026. The Department says it will keep the public informed of any change.
