Funding has been awarded to three different Omeath projects as part of a €6.2m fund to schools, community and sports facilities nationwide.
Omeath Tidy Towns received a total of €127,810 for the projects, €44,951 for the installation of solar compactor bins and information panel on recycling. Scoil Naomh Brid Omeath got €32,859 for the upgrade of a soft play area while Scoil Naomh Lorcan Omeath got €50,000 for the installation of an Astro-turf MUGA facility.
Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys TD announced the funding on Friday 12 January.
Minister Humphries said “This funding is being provided under the 2023 CLÁR Programme and is all about ensuring that some of our most rural communities benefit from projects that will make them more vibrant places to live, work and visit.
“So from astro-turf pitches, playgrounds and sensory gardens to walking tracks, nature trails, outdoor performance spaces and community cafés – these projects really will make a difference to the lives of people of all ages and abilities.
“This funding is on top of the €4.7 million that I announced in December, which focussed predominantly on supporting our GAA and other sports clubs.
“All of this investment is being delivered under our rural development policy, ‘Our Rural Future’, which is having a transformational impact right across Rural Ireland.”
Presently Omeath is undergoing somewhat of a transformation with the extension of the Carlingford Lough Greenway as well as public realm work which will see the village being made much more pedestrian friendly with the addition of a one way traffic system.
