Planning permission has been granted for four apartments above a Café on Hill Street, Newry. It's yet another development that should lead to more vibrance on the street. Once the shops close Hill Street virtually completely clears of life and certainly does not feel very welcoming.
The proposal is for 14, 16 and 18 Hill Street the current location of Café Krem.
The development proposes a change of use with the renovation and extension of existing mixed use cafe storage and apartment units to provide 3 two bed apartments and 1 one bed apartment with the ground floor Café units to be retained.
For many years Masterplans for Newry City have stressed the need for more 'living above the shop' development, something that has only recently begun to happen.
