Write a commentA long campaign for a play park for Mayobridge has finally got the green light.
Local Councillor Gillian Fitzpatrick has welcomed the news “The provision of proper play facilities for children is an essential need in our community. I have campaigned for a state of the art play park for Mayobridge. We as a community have met with many disappointments over the years and finally Playboard NI completed the Council Play Strategy and I am delighted to say Mayobridge met the criteria.
Playboard subsequently have met with local children both at the youth club and school council, alongside an online survey and now we are finally at the design stage. I am passionate about encouraging and facilitating greater physical activity for our young people and this play park is one of the ways this can be achieved"
Councillor Fitzpatrick continued “Mayobridge has a significant young population and the gaping need for a play facility was clear to be seen. This playpark is what has been missing, a shared space for children and younger people to play and develop together. Whilst I was of the opinion that the locals would be asked which location was preferred, Playboard NI in their study have determined that the optimum location for the playpark is at the Community Centre. However I am delighted to note the council will work to address the concerns of road safety with the potential of installing a road crossing. The Department of Infrastructure are currently carrying out a survey for a pelican crossing in the village alongside other road safety measures after discussions with myself as recent as October 2017.”
Councillor Fitzpatrick added “Alongside my campaign for Mayobridge playpark I have continually campaigned to ensure Lurganare upgrade is delivered on time and in line with the council play strategy. These two schemes were initially part of a joint scheme and I am committed to ensuring delivery as planned and agreed.”
