Write a commentPlans for Newry, Mourne and Down Council to spend almost a quarter of a million pounds on upgrading play parks in the South Armagh area have been welcomed by local councillors Kate Loughran and Pete Byrne. Plans include play parks in Camlough, Jonesborough, Cullyhanna and Dromintee.
The spending was agreed at this month’s meeting of the Active and Healthy Communities Committee.
Cllr Loughran said, "This has been a long process but it’s great to finally get to the point of delivery. This funding will go along way to address playgrounds which are looking tired and unappealing to children. I’m particularly pleased to see Oliver Plunkett Park in Camlough benefitting from funding along with Jonesborough, Cullyhanna and Dromintee."
Cllr Byrne added, "We cannot underestimate the importance of the contribution of the Rural Development Programme (RDP) where the Council has secured match funding of £180,000 for these projects. Rural proofing must be at the heart of everything we do especially considering the geography of our Council area. As these works are dependent on the secured RDP funding, upgrades must be completed by March 2019."
