Police are appealing for information and witnesses after two arson attacks in Co Armagh on the night of Tuesday 6 October. A house at School Terrace in Newtownhamilton was damaged by fire, and a tractor was set alight outside the town in the Tullyneill Road area.
Sergeant Wilson said officers attended a report of a fire at the School Terrace property shortly before midnight, together with colleagues from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, who managed to extinguish the blaze. Smoke damage was caused to the entire property, though there were no reports of any injuries.
A second report was received at around midnight that a tractor had been set alight at another property in the Tullyneill Road area. The occupants of the house managed to extinguish the fire themselves, and the full cab of the vehicle was burnt out. A car was reported to have been seen leaving the area in the direction of Newtownhamilton.
Police believe the fire at School Terrace was started deliberately, and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident.
Sergeant Wilson said: "At this stage, it is believed that the fire was started deliberately, and our enquiries are ongoing this morning to establish the circumstances of the incident."
He added: "As our enquiries continue into both reports this morning, which we believe at this stage may be linked, we are appealing to anyone with any information which may assist us to get in touch.
