Newry City Councillor Cathal King has welcomed the infrastructure investment by his party colleague, Infrastructure Minister John O’Dowd of £8.1M as well as an additional investment of £1M that will begin to target potholes, but has pointed out that residents in Meigh, Killean, Killeavy and other areas continue to raise their concerns to him about the number and size of potholes on their local roads.
Cllr King said “Of particular concern was a number of potholes on the main road through Meigh. While one of these has been patched, there are still issues, both in Meigh and other areas that must be fixed as soon as possible.
“However, a number of roads in the areas outside of Meigh, such as the Ballymacdermott and the Bernish road are also plagued with a number of large potholes and other issues. This is one of the very real consequences that over a decade of Tory cuts has had on local communities."
