Plans for the proposed Newry public park were on display yesterday at Newry Leisure Centre with a steady flow of members of the public in attendance. Representatives from Newry, Mourne and Down District Council and Integrated Consultancy Team Tetra Tech were on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback. The general consensus from the public is that it can't happen soon enough.
Included in plans are Central Plaza and Southern Plaza areas, Waterside Walkways for pedestrian and cycle access throughout the site, a Biodiversity Trail, Urban Sports Facility, toilets, Play Park, boat slipway and pontoon, watersports building and storage area, natural amphitheatre, native trees and shrubs, pump track and disabled parking/ drop off area.
Currently it is hoped that the next stage will see full planning permission applied for, in mid December with a park completion date of May 2027.
