Organisers are hoping for a large turn out at a Daisy Hill Hospital Public Rally being held in Newry later this month.  The rally will be held on Saturday 29 April 2023 at 12 noon to protest at the proposed removal of emergency general surgery at Daisy Hill Hospital.

The rally is to commence at Marcus Square, Hill Street Newry and participants will walk to Daisy Hill Hospital. Francis Gallagher, Chairman, Save our Emergency Surgery Committee stated “ It is hoped the people of our district will form a human chain around Daisyhill and show the Southern Health Trust that we are no longer going to accept any further attempts to downgrade our hospital”

Following the Southern Health and Social Services Trust public consultation meeting in the Canal Court Hotel. the recently formed Save Our Emergency Surgery Committee are progressing with collecting replies to the consultation  documents at various Shopping Centres , Sporting Clubs, Community Associations, Schools etc to demonstrate the community’s annoyance at the proposed removal of Emergency Surgery Services at Daisy Hill Hospital.

Mr Gallagher stated, “ Anyone who attended the Public Consultation meeting in the Miller Suite, felt the frustration and anger of the local community with the poorly constructed proposal to strip Acute services from Daisy Hill Hospital. There were a lot of promises made at this meeting which need to be implemented. We need commitments confirmed politically and in writing because we have had false promises in the past which never happened”
