Radius Housing has announced plans for a new social housing development at Drumgullion, Newry, delivering 21 homes to help meet growing housing demand in the area. The development will provide a mix of family homes, including a number of wheelchair-accessible properties designed to support a wide range of housing needs within the local community.
Work began on site on 31 March 2026, with site set-up currently ongoing, and the homes are scheduled for handover in September 2028. Planning approval for the scheme was secured in 2020 for a site located north of 78 Armagh Road, Newry, and it is being delivered through a Design & Build Agreement in partnership with GEDA Construction.
The housing mix will include 13 three-person, two-bedroom houses, three five-person, three-bedroom houses, two five-person, three-bedroom wheelchair houses, one three-person, two-bedroom wheelchair house, and two two-person, one-bedroom apartments.
The development cost for the scheme is £5.18 million, including £2.6 million in private investment and £2.5 million in grant funding. Once complete, the wider development area is expected to accommodate approximately 89 people, providing energy efficient, affordable, modern housing in a highly accessible location close to schools, retail and local services. The site is within walking distance of St Colman's College, St Joseph's Boys' High School, and Damolly Retail Park and close to the Newry Canal towpath.
