Write a commentLocal Craftsman James Adair - The Journeyman Saddler based in WIN Business Park, Newry has won a prestigious award in the Leatherwork category at the RDS National Craft Awards in Dublin earlier this month.
James won the award with his hand crafted Side Saddle made on a 1920’s tree. The saddle took six weeks to make and was one of two entries James had in the competition, the other being a briefcase (pictured)
James who is a Master Saddler and Saddle Fitter has been established over twenty years and as well as his saddle work he makes all types of leather goods, from belts to handbags and briefcases to drinking vessels as well as hosting Leatherwork courses at his WIN premises.
The RDS National Craft Awards promote the practice of craft in Ireland and encourages the highest standards of design and technique in both traditional and contemporary craft disciplines.
The Competition boasts a prize fund in excess of €24,000 over 20 different categories and is one of Europe’s leading independently adjudicated craft competitions. It travels to different parts of the country each year, this year it will be on show at the Hunt Museum in Limerick from the 4th of September to the 10th of October.
