Road Safe NI, in partnership with CRASH Services, has officially launched the 10th Annual Northern Ireland Road Safety Awards. These awards aim to recognise the outstanding contributions of individuals and organisations that work tirelessly to improve road safety across the region.
The awards were unveiled on Friday, 27 September, at a special event held at Templepatrick. Organised by the Road Safe NI Charity, with CRASH Services as the headline sponsor, the awards feature 12 different categories open for nominations.
Speaking at the launch, Minister O’Dowd highlighted the importance of road safety in Northern Ireland: “I’m pleased to be here today to support the Road Safety Awards. On average, we lose one life a week on our roads. These aren’t just statistics—each number represents a loved one who won’t be returning home to their family. The impact of every road death is devastating, and as road users, we all share the responsibility to reduce these tragedies.”
This year’s award sponsors include Drivetech from the AA, the Department for Infrastructure (DFI), JMK Solicitors, U105, New Driver NI, Applegreen, Hankook Tyres, Weev, and The NI Road Safety Partnership. The awards ceremony will take place at Belfast Castle on Friday, 15 November, to coincide with the start of Road Safety Week.
Davy Jackson, Chairperson of Road Safe NI, expressed his enthusiasm for this year’s event: “We are thrilled with the success the awards have seen over the last nine years, and we’re excited to continue this tradition with our 2024 nominees. It’s so important to recognise the hard work and dedication of those helping to make our roads safer.”
Award categories range from education in schools to driving instructors, emergency services, and even a lifetime achievement award. Nominations are open now, with a closing date of Friday, 1st November 2024.
Jonathan McKeown, CEO of CRASH Services, added: “At CRASH Services, we’re committed to supporting motorists when they need us most, and road safety is a cause close to our hearts. We’re proud to sponsor the NI Road Safety Awards once again and encourage everyone to submit their nominations. Whether you’re involved in a road safety project or know someone making a difference, this is your chance to recognise their efforts.”
