Rock Choir performing at the Giants Causeway

Rock Choir, described as the world's largest contemporary choir experience, is looking for new members from Newry, with free taster sessions available this April. Members of the choir recently performed in the Canal Court in the city.

Founded in 2005 by Caroline Redman Lusher MBE, the organisation has grown to more than 1,000 members across the north and has no auditions or requirement to read music.

New choirs are launching in a number of locations including Newry, Banbridge, Portadown and Lurgan, with weekly rehearsals focused on pop, rock and contemporary chart hits. Arrangements are produced exclusively for Rock Choir by Grammy award-winning producers.

The organisation made international headlines recently when 300 members from Northern Ireland filmed a music video of Dreams by The Cranberries at the Giant's Causeway, the first time the National Trust had permitted a choir to film at the landmark. The video attracted millions of views and worldwide media coverage, including coverage on The Today Show in the United States.

Members also take part in performances further afield, with past events including Wembley Stadium and Carnegie Hall in New York, as well as trips to cities such as Berlin and countries including Greece and Spain.

Rock Choir Leader Beth McNally said: "I have seen first-hand how powerful singing can be. It really is something magical. Rock Choir brings people together in a way that lifts confidence, creates lasting friendships and builds a real sense of belonging. There is something incredibly special about standing side by side and succeeding together as one voice.

"There is never any pressure to perform and no one is ever singled out. You are part of a sound where everyone blends together, and the result is something uplifting and inspiring. Time and time again, I see people surprise themselves with what they can achieve. Above all, it is joyful, energising and great fun."

Each rehearsal is led by a trained Rock Choir Leader, with the organisation placing emphasis on wellbeing, confidence-building and community as much as on the music itself.

Free taster sessions are open to anyone this April with no auditions and no experience required. Further details and sign-up are available at www.rockchoir.com.
