Write a commentRostrevor farmer Pascal McGinn has taken Reserve Champion with his young bull, Rostrevor Max, at a recent British Blue Calf Show in Downpatrick Mart, with Springhill Noelle from J & S Martin, Newtownards taking the top spot.
Organised by the NI British Blue Cattle Club with support from the Bank of Ireland the calf show was a follow on from a young handlers event in Armoy earlier this autumn. A Young Handlers competition was also held at the event.
Club chair Basil Dougherty affirmed that the theme of educating young people was running through British Blue cattle breeders activities this year.
He also warmly thanked Dan Rodgers, who was judge for the day in Downpatrick and noted that the catalogue is available on line at www.britishbluecattle.org for the show and sale in Dungannon Farmers' Mart on Friday, Oct 5. Judging at 10am with a tri breed sale of British Blue, Simmental and Blonde stock from 12.30pm. An ideal outing for any dairy or suckler herd owner seeking a bull that ads value to every calf born.
