Write a commentNewry PSNI have appealed for information following the report of an attempted robbery at a shop on the Killeavy Road on Wednesday, 26 September.
Detective Sergeant Bell said: “It was reported that around 4.30pm on Wednesday afternoon, two males, one carrying a hatchet, entered the premises and demanded money.
“No money was handed over and the pair left the scene and were last seen heading in the direction of Derrybeg Drive. There were no reports of any injuries following the incident.
“One male is described as being approximately 6’, of slim build, short brown hair and wearing black bottoms and a green rain coat. The other male is described as being around 5’8’’ tall, medium build with short, dark hair and wearing dark trousers and a black/navy rain coat."

Newry City Councillor Charlie Casey visited the Shop along with his colleague Mickey Brady MP said,
"Two youths with their faces covered entered the premises on Wednesday afternoon and demanded cash from the till. The owner Charles Armstrong set of the panic alarm and the two raiders fled empty handed. It was a horrific ordeal for Charles. This is serious anti community criminal activity and those engaged in it should face the full rigors of the law".
MP for NEwry and Armagh Mickey Brady added "Charles pointed out that this is the third time the shop has been targeted and it is having a negative impact on his business in the area in general. He is supplying a community asset and creating local jobs but this anti-community activity is putting all of this in danger. Anyone with information about this criminal act should contact the PSNI".
