Write a commentDunnes Stores in Hill Street in Newry closes it's doors for the final time this weekend after many years serving Newry Shoppers.
Taking over from Quinns the Milestone, Newry's very first supermarket, (named after a milestone in the wall of the premises) wee Dunnes was the shopping place of choice for several generations of local families.
Local photographer Mark Pearce, NewRayPics.com took a trip down memory lane and called in to photograph the staff and the store.
"This morning I had the pleasure of taking A few pics of The staff at Dunnes Supermarket on Hill Street as well pics of the shelves that still had stock for sale and the striking exterior known to generations of Newry folk.
"Alas The shutters will be pulled down for the final time on Saturday evening ending over 40 Years service (sooner than I thought) ..
"It was a joy to have the banter and photograph the long serving ladies & gents who where surprising upbeat considering the end of an era is near.
"While there I was humbled watching the steady flow of customers young and old hugging and wishing the staff well for the future."
