End of an Era at City Supermarket

Lorraine Curran started working in Quinns The Milestone, Hill Street, Newry in 1974 when she was just 21, and she has been there ever since! Edmund Rocks was the store manager at the time. Quinns was taken over by Dunnes Stores later in the seventies and the company has been a major part of Hill Street until now.

Lorraine who hails from The Meadow and now lives in Dominic Street in Newry has literally spent all her working life in the supermarket.

Today marked Lorraine and her fellow workers last day, after Dunnes decided to close their Hill Street premises in the city, bringing to an end her 44 years of work in the store.

Speaking about her work mates over the years, Lorraine remarked that they were great people to work along with "It's just a wee family”.

The closure of their Hill St Supermarket and The Mall Off Licence leave Dunnes with a supermarket, homeware store and clothes store in Newry.
