Write a commentDown Soroptomist Group and Newry, Mourne and Down Council recently held a poster competition for local schools to promote awareness and knowledge of local pollinators.
The 'Bee Aware’ Competition sought to raise awareness for school pupils on how important it is to plant native species of wildflowers, build pollinator boxes and reduce the use of pesticides so that flowers can thrive.
Announcing the results of the first 'Be Aware' competition, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Mark Murnin said, “I am delighted to say that the first year of this poster competition has been a great success. Bees play an important part in the ensuring the viability of our plants, vegetables and fruits. We rely on our pollinators and therefore we need to provide the environment that will let them play this vital role.
The Chairperson finished by congratulating St Patrick’s Primary, Cumran Primary School and Knockevin School on their success.
