Write a commentHuman remains have been found at the forest near Rouen in France where a search has been ongoing to locate the remains of Newry man Seamus Ruddy. Several unsuccessful searches have taken place since 1999.
Thirty three year old Seamus, who taught English in Paris was abducted from Paris on the 9th of May 1985. In December 1995 the INLA admitted responsibility for his death. Information emerged in 1999 to suggest that his body was buried in Rouen, France.
The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims Remains had been carrying out their latest search at the site around 120 miles north west of Paris since Monday, following new leads received.
It could take some time before the remains are positively identified as that of Mr Ruddy.
Newry and Armagh MLA, Justin McNulty has said the thoughts and prayers of the people of Newry are with Seamus’s family.
The MLA commented "Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ruddy family today, as with all those families who lost loved ones in the troubles."
