Senator Conor Murphy has welcomed the news that Israeli war bonds will no longer be facilitated by the Irish Central Bank.

Senator Murphy said; “It is welcome news that Israeli war bonds will no longer be facilitated by the Irish Central Bank.

"This is a direct result of political pressure led by Sinn Féin and others and it is a testament to the people of Ireland who came out onto the streets in thousands in support of the people of Palestine

“There was widespread revulsion among Irish people that the Irish Central Bank would facilitate the sale of Israel’s genocide bonds and I am glad to see an end to Irish Central Banks facilitation of Israeli war bonds.

“Unfortunately the government parties, despite their stated support for an end to the war on Palestine, refused to support a Sinn Féin bill in May which would have ceased the provision of permissions by the Central Bank at that time.

“However I am delighted that this campaign has now been won.

“It is imperative that organisations of the Irish state are not associated with any financial products benefitting the Israeli slaughter of Palestinians.  This must also include a permanent prohibition on the NMTA investing Irish taxpayers money in Israeli War Bonds.

“The ethnic cleansing attempt by the Israeli state must be resisted at every opportunity and the Irish government must now proceed with haste to enact the Occupied Territories Bill in full, finally banning the trade of goods and services from occupied Palestinian lands.

“Sinn Féin will continue to advocate for Palestine and an end to the ruthless actions of the rogue Israeli state.”
