Sharon Shannon really impressed at her concert in Bellinis in Newry last night.
The concert began with a group comprised of talented local musicians Finbar Magee on vocals and Guitar; Fergal O'Brien on the Bodhran; Briege Quinn on Fiddle and William Dundon on the Accordion playing a selection of tunes and songs penned by Finbar.
Finbar orginally from Whitecross has a knack of expressing the simplest emotions in words especially with his Tullywinney song reflecting the townland of his youth and his song expressing the fear that red headed people could become extinct and what would need to be done to prevent this.
Sharon then came on with support from Alan Connor from the Jack L band on Keyboards and Bass and boy could he play those keys!

Sharon enthralled the crowd with her beaming smile and raw skill not only on the Accordian but also on Fiddle and Tin Whistle. It was over Ten years since she had been in Newry, making an appearance at the Newry City Concert in 2002.
Sharon played tracks from the length and breadth of her career including Cavan Potholes, The Burst Mattress as well as the unmissable Blackbird and Gaffos Ball named after one of her former dogs.
Sharon is passionate about Dog Rescue Pounds and encouraged anyone looking a four legged companion to go to their local pound rather than buy elsewhere. A friend produced the video below, a witty look at Sharon's collection with music to boot! {youtube}fi3PsicYlHQ{/youtube}
