A major resurfacing scheme on the A29 New Road near Silverbridge is set to begin this Monday, 13 April with weekday road closures in place until 5 June.
The scheme will cover 2.2 kilometres of the A29 New Road, starting 700 metres south of Tullydonnell Road and running to a point approximately 750 metres north of the junction with Ballsmill Road. A daily road closure will operate Monday to Friday between 09:30 and 16:30. The road will remain open during evenings and weekends throughout the works.
Announcing the scheme Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins said: "This is a substantial investment for the Silverbridge area which will deliver significant benefits for local businesses, residents and road users. The investment demonstrates my commitment to improving our road network, which is vital for connecting our businesses and communities."
The Minister added: "This work will greatly improve the strength and surface quality of this section of the road network to the benefit of local residents, businesses and those travelling in the Silverbridge area."
During the closure period, signed diversions will be in place.
Traffic travelling towards Dundalk will be diverted via A29 New Road, B30 Newry Road, The Square, Cullaville Road, A37 Concession Road, RouteN53, N53 Castletown Road, R132 Newry Road and R177 Armagh Road
Traffic travelling towards Newtownhamilton will be diverted via R177 Armagh Road, R132 Newry Road, Linenhall Street, Bridge Street, N53 Castletown, Route N53, A37 Concession Road, B30 Cullaville Road, The Square, Newry Road and A29 New Road.
Motorists are advised to allow additional time when travelling in the area and to comply with all temporary traffic restrictions. Local access will be accommodated where possible, though some delays are to be expected.
The Minister concluded: "I would like to thank residents, local businesses and commuters for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is carried out."
