Write a commentAfter last week's Assembly election, the three newly re-elected Sinn Fein MLA's have thanked the voting public for what has been the party's best result ever in Newry and Armagh.
MLA's Conor Murphy, Megan Fearon and Cathal Boylan gained 26,207 first preference votes and speaking after the election Mr Murphy commented "Now we have a job of work to do to restore public confidence in the institutions, to deal with the outstanding issues"
“We said that what we win in this election we win for all, so now we have a job of work to do to restore public confidence in the institutions, to deal with the outstanding issues. We don’t need a new agreement – what we need is implementation of what is outstanding from previous agreements.We know we have a task ahead of us now but the Sinn Féin team are up for it".
Colleague Megan Fearon commenting on the historic election said "We have had a brilliant result here in Newry & Armagh and I want to thank everyone who voted for us. We value and respect your support. Our vote surged 7.4% taking 49% of the vote to ensure that we defied all expectations and kept our three MLAs".
Cathal Boylan who has represented Newry & Armagh as a Sinn Féin MLA since 2007 echoed his colleagues sentiments saying "I want to thank all those activists who worked tirelessly to ensure that Sinn Féin's mandate has been enhanced and strengthened by the electorate here in Newry & Armagh."
