The South Armagh Business Improvement Group has welcomed news that resurfacing work starts tomorrow on the A29 New Line between Tullydonnell and Silverbridge. The scheme is costing in the region of £650,000.
The works will address deterioration on the national route through South Armagh. The news has been welcomed by local business representatives, who have also pointed to an improvement in pothole figures registered across the area.
John Nealon, Chair of the South Armagh Business Improvement Group, said: "This is absolute brilliant news, and credit needs to going to our local public representatives and to the Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins for securing funding for the project."
Mr Nealon also noted that significant patching had been carried out across South Armagh, with registered potholes down considerably from figures recorded at the start of March.
He was keen to acknowledge, however, that more remains to be done. "Pothole patching is not a permanent solution, and there are many other stretches of road that need attention in South Armagh, but today we focus on these two positive news stories," he said.
