The Brian Conlon Foundation has announced funding for 14 Newry organisations as it marks its fifth year of supporting community groups across the city.
Grants ranging from £1,500 to £3,500 have been awarded to groups working across youth support, inclusive sport, creative arts and community wellbeing with the funding distributed in partnership with the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland.
A spokesperson for the Brian Conlon Foundation said: "We are proud to mark five years of supporting groups across Newry by announcing funding for another 14 organisations. Each year we see more inspiring projects applying to the fund, and it is a reminder of the commitment, creativity and resilience that exists throughout our community."
The spokesperson added: "Brian believed strongly in giving people opportunities and backing those who worked to make Newry a better place. These awards reflect that belief. They help local groups expand their reach, strengthen their programmes and support children, young people and families at a time when community services matter more than ever."
Lois Kilpatrick from the Community Foundation for Northern Ireland said: "Five years on, the Brian Conlon Foundation continues to be a positive force for the Newry community. The organisations funded this year are making a real contribution to community life, offering programmes that benefit people right across the Newry area."
She added: "Our partnership with the Conlon family has grown year on year, and we are privileged to help deliver a fund that carries forward Brian's values so authentically. The continued demand for this fund shows just how vital it has become and how deeply Brian's legacy is felt throughout Newry."
The 14 organisations receiving grants this year are Desy Jennings Football Festival (£1,500), St John's Bosco ABC (£1,500), Thomas Davis GAC (£1,996), Newry Triathlon Club (£2,000), Home-Start Newry & Mourne (£2,160), Breast Mates (£2,700), Carnagat Area Community Association (£2,800), The Road Ahead NI (£2,940), Newpoint Players (£3,400), Newry City AFC Special Olympic Club (£3,500), Newry Rowing Club (£3,500), Crisis Café (£3,500), Sticky Fingers Arts (£3,500) and Craigmore ABC (£3,500).
The foundation's spokesperson reflected on the significance of the milestone: "As we celebrate this five-year milestone, we are reminded of the lasting impact Brian continues to have. His legacy is not only remembered, but also lived, every day, in the work of these organisations."
