St Moninna's Pupils Still Waiting for Road Safety Measures

Newry and Armagh MLA Justin McNulty has called for safety improvements on Chancellor's Road following a recent visit to St Moninna's Primary School in Cloughoge, where pupils have been waiting two years for action on traffic calming measures.

During his visit, McNulty met with Tomás McKee who has returned to the school as principal. He praised the atmosphere at St Moninna's. "I was hugely impressed with the positive and welcoming atmosphere, and it is evident that each and every staff member is passionate and dedicated to fostering an environment in which the children can thrive." said Mr McNulty.

However, concerns have been raised by both staff and parents about the lack of safety measures outside the school. Chancellor's Road is currently a 40mph zone, which poses a huge risk for staff, parents and children during pick-up and drop-off times.

Two years ago, pupils at St Moninna's wrote to elected representatives asking for traffic calming measures such as a 20mph zone to be implemented. McNulty expressed frustration that pupils are still waiting for action, despite having raised the issue with the Minister for Infrastructure on numerous occasions.

Mr McNulty said he hopes that as a local minister, she will follow through with action on the safety concerns raised by the school community.
