Students from the Southern Regional and South Eastern Colleges took the seats normally occupied by local Councillors in the Council Chamber in Downpatrick yesterday Thursday at a special 'Question Time' event to mark European Local Democracy Week.

A panel consisting of five Councillors representing the various political grouping within the Council, Liam Hannaway, Council Chief Executive and Marie Ward, Director of Enterprise, Regeneration and Tourism answered questions from the students.
Newry, Mourne and Down District Council Chairperson, Councillor Roisin Mulgrew, chaired the debate.
In closing the event, Chairperson Mulgrew thanked the young people for their thoughtful and insightful questions and said she hoped some of them would consider becoming Councillors in the future as she had no doubt they would make an excellent contribution to the Council.
