Write a commentAn Intergenerational Silver Service Event was held this week at Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency. The Work4Uplus event saw guests sit down to a three course meal at WIN Business Park, with young people using their table management skills to keep everything running smoothly.
Commenting on the event Pauline Coghlan, Programme Manager, Work4UPlus said “The Work4Uplus 2 programme is a youth development programme funded by The Community Fund, our core aim being to improve the confidence and self-esteem of young people and help them develop skills and achieve work readiness.
“These young people have been working hard over the last few weeks learning about table management, a very important aspect of Silver Service, as each table plan and layout will reflect a different service form. Learning the art of Silver Service will open up many job opportunities for young people as the hospitality industry continues to grow in the local area and beyond.
"They volunteered to host this intergenerational event for members of the local community while gaining practice and interaction with ‘real’ customers to help improve their skills and confidence”
