Check out the video from today's Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign organised New Years Eve rally for Palestine at Buttercrane Quay in Newry. A large number of people attended the lunchtime rally in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Speaking at the rally IPSC Newry Chairman Marc Mac Seáin said of the current war in Gaza "The goal of this isn't to defeat Hamas, It's to make the conditions for sustaining life in Gaza untennable."

He continued "We're going to keep putting pressure on. It's getting increasingly untenable for the United States of America and its allies to keep up what's it's doing. So much rhetoric from people saying how they supported Israel's right to defend itself. The right to fall Palestinians into the dust basically, but now, there was a United Nations General Assembly Resolution about two weeks ago, which is mostly a symbolic thing, and overwhelmingly countries across the world supported a ceasefire immediately and the release of all hostages, that's on either side, Israeli or Palestinian. There's 1000s More Palestinians being kept without any sort of trial.

More recently, about a week ago, the UN Security Council was going to have a more meaningful resolution to bring about a ceasefire but the United States of America stepped in saying that they were going to veto anything that would have a ceasefire in it. So it's very clear who is responsible ultimately for this. You have Israelis carrying it out in the main but the United States of America, they essentially have Israel there as a military base in the region for to exert their influence against other countries. You have the current president of America Joe Biden, 20 years ago on the Senate floor in the US, saying that if Israel didn't exist, the United States of America would have to invent an Israel."

Also speaking a Health professsional said "I'm seeing all the babies that are coming out of Gaza. Not even able to be buried. This is a genocide. We all know it's a genocide. We need to keep talking and for people who are ignoring us and changing the subject we need to keep talking about what's going on in Palestine."

Also speaking was Cormac Ó Beaglaoich who recited a poem entitled 'If I must die' by a Palestinian man who was killed in a targeted Israeli airstrike on his home on the sixth of December this year along with his brother and sister and her three children.
