Police in Newry are working to tackle antisocial behaviour in the Kilmorey Park area.

Over the past number of weeks officers have been speaking to residents in the area who have shared their concerns about groups of youths drinking in Kilmorey Park and subsequent incidents of antisocial behaviour and criminal damage.

In two recent incidents tyres were set on fire against a garden fence in John Mitchell Street during the early hours of Saturday, 12 November, and a car windscreen was damaged after objects were thrown at it in Stream Street in Sunday, 20 November.

Constable Bloomer said: "This behaviour and activity is unacceptable. We have spoken to residents in the surrounding areas, including High Street, Stream Street, Church Street, and Cowen Street, and know that they do not want antisocial behaviour or any criminal activity in their community.

"We are patrolling the area and, if you are found to be involved in antisocial or criminal activity you will be spoken to and reported. You could face the very real prospect of prosecution and a criminal record which could affect future travel, education or career plans. "We are asking the community for their continued support and would encourage anyone with concerns or information to contact us in Newry on 0845 600 8000."

Police in Newry are also appealing for information following two incidents of criminal damage in the Nursery Drive area.

Some time between 3.15pm on Wednesday, 23 November, and 7.15am on Thursday, 24 November, the tyres of a Silver Seat Ibizia and burgundy Mitsubishi Space Wagon were slashed.

Both vehicles were parked in a layby at Nursery Drive. Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the damage being caused or has information in relation to this to contact them.
